A Guide to Ease the Pressure of Divorce

A single mother has used the trauma of her own divorce to pull together a help guide for people going through relationship stress or separation.

Adelaide resident Karin Koch, who went through an acrimonious divorce six years ago, has brought together expert content from academics, psychologists, counsellors, family lawyers and financial advisers into one, easy to read book called Relationships, Separation & Divorce: A Practical Guide For Difficult Times.

“When I went through my divorce I had no idea of the resources available to me or where to access quality information and as a result, like many others in my situation, I made poor decisions that have had a long-term impact,” Ms Koch said.

“It inspired me to come up with a guide for people facing relationship, separation and children’s issues, so that others could get the right advice and not make the same mistakes that I did.”

It took a year of full time work for Ms Koch to complete the book, which she was able to finance by selling her car and borrowing funds from family.

Jane Miller, an Accredited Family Law Specialist and Partner at Tindall Gask Bentley, contributed most of the publication’s legal content.

She said the guide will provide readers with a solid base of emotional, financial and legal knowledge.

“Clients who are considering or going through separation often come to me in a confused and emotional state, completely unaware of the facts or the way forward,” Ms Miller said.

“There is plenty of information out there but it is a challenge to firstly find relevant material, and secondly to find information that is factual, helpful and easy to understand.

“This book covers just about every imaginable relationship issue and it’s sure to send people in the right direction.”

Our book giveaway competition has concluded. The book is available for $19.99 from the Relationships in Transition website:
