TGB welcomes Tribunal plans

Tindall Gask Bentley managing partner Morry Bailes says a General Appeals Tribunal will save South Australians time and money, and improve access to justice.

Tindall Gask Bentley is the state’s largest injury law firm and represents thousands of disadvantaged people, many of whom will benefit from Attorney-General John Rau’s planned new system.

“Currently our clients who are aggrieved by administrative decisions must go to the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court for answers, which is a slow and expensive process,” Mr Bailes said.

“For some, it makes the prospect of pursuing justice untenable.

“If a General Appeals Tribunal can make this process cheaper and easier, then we welcome this initiative on behalf of our clients.”

Mr Bailes hopes the Tribunal will have a “broad scope”.

“The details are not yet fully understood, but I believe a system that covers a wide range of issues will be the most successful, much like the set up in Victoria (VCAT),” Mr Bailes said.
