Despite retiring from the law in 2023, Tom Mead remains a close friend of TGB Lawyers. Any queries relating to current matters should be directed to Senior Associate Adam Osborn or Associate Caitlin Shervill.
For Tom Mead, South Australia’s regional communities are more than just places to visit, or locations on a map. They’re in his blood.
Tom has lived and worked in the Mt Barker area for more than 25 years, but that is only one part of the journey for the well-travelled country lawyer.
After completing his law degree, Tom didn’t jump straight into his legal career. Looking for life experience he went to the opposite extreme, and spent a year in the Australian outback working as a Jackeroo on a Northern Territory cattle station stocked with over 50,000 head of cattle.
Armed with an even stronger understanding of rural communities, Tom started out as a lawyer in the Clare Valley, had a stint in Darwin, returned to Adelaide and then settled in Mt Barker.
While he covered a lot of ground over five years, Tom developed the broad skills required to be a successful regional lawyer. He’d worked on both the plaintiff and defendant sides of personal injury law, commercial matters of all kinds, complex estate matters and set up and managed his own law practice.
Tom is truly committed to the Adelaide Hills community, which includes helping the less fortunate through the Mt Barker and Strathalbyn branch of the St Vincent De Paul Society, a charitable organisation of which he is a past President and current member.
