Tindall Gask Bentley founder Colin Tindall has retired after 56 years in the South Australian legal profession.

Mr Tindall, 77, said the time was right to leave the law.

“I’ll miss this firm and the people very much but it has been a wonderful journey”, Mr Tindall said.

“I’ve enjoyed more than five decades in the South Australian legal profession, and that has been a magnificent part of my life.

“The firm has come a long way since its humble beginnings and is in great hands with our current partners at the helm.”

Mr Tindall partnered with Richard Gask in 1970, launching Tindall Gask and Co without a client or file to their name.

The duo, who were later joined by Ron Bentley, gradually built their practice purely through a commitment to service which turned into word of mouth referrals.

That culture stuck and over the next four decades the firm grew to become the largest plaintiff law firm in South Australia, and also the largest family law firm in the state.

Mr Tindall also spent six years as a Special Magistrate in South Australia’s Children’s Court, but TGB Managing Partner Morry Bailes said Mr Tindall made his mark in the personal injury field.

“Colin’s retirement is a great loss, not just for our firm but for the profession in general,” Mr Bailes, who is also President of the Law Society of SA, said.

“He was an outstanding lawyer and we were fortunate to have Colin working with our firm for the many years that he did.

“Colin is a humble man who has always played down his achievements, but his integrity and people orientated approach set a foundation for the firm that has helped it become what it is today.

“Along the way he has helped many a young lawyer, and in my day I was one of them.”

Mr Tindall follows Ron Bentley, who retired earlier this year.
