Burtenshaw V DECS: Sue Burtenshaw Statement

South Australian School Principal Sue Burtenshaw has made a public statement regarding her dispute with the Department of Education and Children’s Services.

6/10/2011, Sue Burtenshaw:

“Today’s decision is positive and I thank the Tribunal for their ruling.

“Even after this two year dispute, I remain just as passionate for the job, the school and the Coober Pedy community as ever. I am committed to teaching these children and helping them learn, grow and develop in a safe environment.

“Ultimately, it is the welfare of the students that it most important, and they have been my motivation throughout this process.

“It has been a taxing period not just for me, but for my loyal supporters. I’d like to thank my husband, Phil, and the rest of my loving family who have been there by my side every step of the way, along with my friends and colleagues, and the many others who offered messages of support over the journey.

“I also must thank the South Australian State School Leaders Association, who’ve guided me through the many appeals and court proceedings and Tindall Gask Bentley lawyers, for their representation.

“I look forward to putting this situation behind me, and returning the position that I love.

“Thank you for your time. Please be aware that due to legal reasons, I cannot make any further comment at this stage.”
